Cubs snap two-game skid with 6-3 victory at Oakland
Nico Hoerner's homer in the 5th inning put the Cubs ahead for good
The Chicago Cubs snapped a two-game losing streak with a 6-3 victory over the Oakland Athletics on Saturday night at the Oakland Coliseum.
Nico Hoerner's three-run homer in the fifth inning gave the Cubs a 4-1 lead, and they added two more runs in the sixth on an RBI single by Ian Happ and a sacrifice fly by Patrick Wisdom.
The A's scored two runs in the bottom of the sixth on a ground-rule double by Elvis Andrus and an RBI single by Chad Pinder, but the Cubs bullpen held on for the victory.
Kyle Hendricks (4-7) allowed three runs on seven hits in 5 1/3 innings for the Cubs. He struck out four and walked two.
Rowan Wick, Brad Wieck, Scott Effross and David Robertson combined to allow one hit over the final 3 2/3 innings.
Cole Irvin (7-8) allowed four runs on six hits in 4 2/3 innings for the A's. He struck out five and walked three.
The Cubs improved to 46-51 with the victory, while the A's fell to 42-55.
The two teams will conclude their three-game series on Sunday afternoon.
